PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT

Official Web Site: In the establishment in San Sisto (PG), Nestlé has been an active photovoltaic park since 2009 that self-produces 90% of the energy required. #Rinascitacastelluccio: creating a platform for donations in support of a reconstruction project and coordination of rural activities in the grounds of Castelluccio di Norcia.¹ Nestlé: commitment for the certification of the conscious use of water (Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard; commitment to 100% of packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025; Nestle is in "Climate To List" of Carbon Disclosure Project 2017, for reducing emissions mitigation of climate risks and reduction of the carbon footprint. Among the 42 commitments in line with the plan for sustainable development UN 2020 aiming for 2030 also include the development, respect, and improvement of rural community provision. Commitment to the sustainable procurement of palm oil by 2020.²

External sources: The campaign Make Chocolate Fair, having been launched in 2015, has been reported as of 2018 that the conditions of workers have not improved much. In particular, following the dramatic decline in the price of cocoa between September 2016 and February 2017, the poverty among farmers had actually increased.³ In 2017 a report of the NGOS Mighty Earth denounces the provenance of cocoa in the Ivory Coast from illegal plantations, Nestlé is between buyers.⁴ According to Oxfam, in view of the multinational importance, it could make the difference in a more serious and convinced way (score 69%, stable since 2015) on the issues considered by its relationship: land, women, producers and agricultural laborers, climate change, transparency, water.⁵

Official Web Site: The official website of Nestlé opens with all the news dedicated to sustainability in the environmental and social spheres.² There is also great attention to the nutritional information on products in section 'Good Life'.⁶ The codes of ethics and conduct are publicly available on the site.⁷ In the section "Nestle responds", many of the pressing issues are analyzed in time appealed to the multinational.⁸

External sources: Oxfam considers nestle among the best multinationals in the aspect of transparency, except for the information on its taxation.⁵ The long history of powdered milk started in the 1970s and had, as the last chapter, the firm challenge of the Delegation of the USA to a resolution of the World Health Organization to Promote Breastfeeding in the world.⁹ Nestle finances regularly USA parties (1,8 million $ for lobbying in 2017).¹⁰

TRACEABILITY

Official Web Site: A study has been commissioned at the Sapienza University of Rome on the importance of the traceability of products (Food Reputation Map); the guarantee of safety is declared for baby food.¹³ It difficult for the user to actually verify the traceability of products.
